The Department of Electrical Engineering of Diponegoro University together with the Polytechnic of Seafaring Sciences-Semarang has successfully held an activity aimed at increasing awareness of electrical safety among fishing communities. With the topic “Socialization of Leakage Current Protection Equipment Applications in Low Voltage Installations for Electrical Safety in Fishing Communities in the Working Area of the Syahbandar Office and Port Authority, as well as PT Pelindo Pelabuhan Tanjung Intan, Cilacap,” this activity is a concrete step in an effort to reduce the risk of electrical accidents in the fishermen’s environment.
At the event held on February 7, 2024 at PT Pelindo Pelabuhan Tanjnung Intan Building, Cilacap, the participants were taught about the importance of using protection equipment such as mini circuit breakers (MCB), earth leakage circuit breakers (ELCB), and Residual Current Circuit Breakers with Overcurrent Protection (RCBO). Mochammad Facta, Ph.D. and Trias Andromeda, Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical Engineering Diponegoro University, as well as Muammar Reza Pahlevi, S.T. as a technician and laboratory assistant of the Electrical Energy Conversion and Power Systems Laboratory of UNDIP Electrical Engineering, also played a role in providing an in-depth understanding of the function and application of these equipment.
This activity not only involved the university, but also collaborated with the community service team of the Polytechnic of Shipping Science-Semarang, PT Pelindo Pelabuhan Tanjung Intan, Cilacap, and the Cilacap Syahbandar and Port Authority Office. A total of 50 participants from employees of PT Pelindo Pelabuhan Tanjung Intan, Cilacap, Syahbandar Office and Cilacap Port Authority, as well as fishing communities in Cilacap attended the activity.
With this socialization, it is hoped that awareness of the importance of safety in the use of electricity will increase among the fishing community, who often face the risk of electrical accidents in their daily activities. Hopefully, preventive measures like this can reduce the incidence of accidents and provide better protection for the entire community, especially those in potentially dangerous work environments such as ports.
