On September 20-25, 2024, a team of Electrical Engineering students from Diponegoro University (Undip) won the Gold Medal Award in the prestigious World Invention Competition and Exhibition (WICE) 2024 held at Mahsa University, Malaysia. The team stole the jury’s attention through their revolutionary innovation called “Dynamic EV Charging”.

Dynamic EV Charging is a charging system for electric vehicles that enables battery charging while the vehicle is in motion. This technology uses wireless coil charging, which consists of a receiver coil installed in the car and a transceiver coil embedded in the road. The system works on the principle of electromagnetic induction, with support from solar panels as a renewable energy source. This innovation aims to increase charging efficiency and reduce dependence on conventional electricity, while supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 7: Clean and Affordable Energy and SDG 13: Addressing Climate Change.

The team was led by Dimas Darmawan Syahputra, with members Zahir Haidar Nafis and Muhammad Diandra Junies Fahriza. They carried out this project under the guidance of Ir. Aghus Sofwan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPU, Undip Electrical Engineering lecturer with experience in energy and technology.

The WICE 2024 competition lasted for six days, attended by participants from various countries with outstanding innovations in the field of technology and sustainability. This achievement is not only a source of pride for the team and the institution, but also shows Undip’s Electrical Engineering commitment in supporting the development of environmentally friendly technology at the international level.
