Department of Electrical Engineering Diponegoro University (UNDIP) has organized a Visiting Lecturer activity with the topic of Power Electronics: Introduction to Concepts, Devices, and Applications, which was delivered by Ass. Prof. Dr. Shahrin Bin Md Ayob, Director of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). This public lecture was held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, in a hybrid manner at Building B, R. 206, UNDIP Electrical Engineering Department.

This activity was attended by lecturers, undergraduate and master students, alumni, and participants from other universities. The public lecture was opened with remarks from Mr. Ir. Mochammad Facta, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., as a representative of the UNDIP Electrical Engineering Department, and guided by Mrs. Alfia Putri Wulandari, S.T., M.T. as moderator.

In this lecture, Prof. Shahrin discussed the basic concepts and applications of power electronics. He explained that power electronics focuses on efficient power conversion and control, with the main devices used, including: diodes, MOSFETs, and IGBTs.

In addition, various types of converters were explained, such as rectifiers, DC-DC converters, and inverters (DC-AC). The applications of these converters are vast, including in the renewable energy sector, which can be used to optimize the conversion and storage of energy from renewable sources. In its development, this technology is also applied in electric vehicles (EVs) to regulate power flow in battery charging and motor drives, as well as in industrial automation for machine control and industrial processes.

This Visiting Lecturer activity received high enthusiasm from the participants, who were very interested in technological developments in the field of power electronics. Hopefully, this activity can open up opportunities for cooperation and strengthen the research relationship between the Department of Electrical Engineering UNDIP and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
