The AquaCultiva team consisting of three UNDIP Electrical Engineering students, namely Guntur Awaludin Saptadi, Gevin Faza Qinthara, and Andromedha Anjar Wasari, succeeded in bringing Indonesia’s name to shine at the World Young Inventors Exhibition 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) on May 16-18, 2024. Their project entitled “Smart Irrigation and Control Nutrient System for Sustainable Agriculture” won two prestigious awards: Best Young Inventor Champion Excellence Award and Gold Medal Award.
Their innovation is an automated irrigation system that incorporates nutrient control using PID to regulate the speed of the water pump motor. The system uses a venturi mechanism for nutrient absorption, where the water flow speed affects the absorption rate of the venturi based on physical principles and required parameters.
The advantages of AquaCultiva are not only in the irrigation and nutrient settings, but it can also be controlled remotely through a mobile application. More interestingly, the system uses Machine Learning to understand plant conditions and adjust watering times based on weather and plant needs, ensuring plants get the right amount of water and nutrients for optimal and sustainable growth.
The competition, organized by the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS), attracted 700 teams from 15 countries, including China, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Oman, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan, Korea, Australia, Qatar, Vietnam, UAE, USA, and Canada. Despite the stiff competition, AquaCultiva managed to stand out with their innovation and take home the prestigious award.
