More than 60 participants with various backgrounds, ranging from students of electrical engineering, FPIK, economics, shipping, and various other majors, gathered enthusiastically in a blood donation activity entitled “Giving for Living” which was held on September 26, 2023 at Undip Electrical Engineering. However, only 38 participants managed to qualify for blood donation, while the rest did not meet the requirements in the health check stage, such as low blood pressure and other health conditions.
This “Giving for Living” activity is the result of a collaboration between the Electrical Engineering Student Association (HME) of Diponegoro University (Undip), the Undip Solidarity Committee for the People (KSR), and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Semarang City. PMI was at the forefront in managing the entire blood donation process, including health checks, preparation of medical equipment such as blood bags and injections, and providing snacks for donors.
KSR Undip also acted as assistants for PMI, helping to prepare and move equipment needed during the blood donation process. They also assisted the committee in organizing forms and merchandise for this activity.
One of the main objectives of this activity is to overcome the problem that is often experienced in hospitals, namely the lack of blood bags available at PMI when there are patients or accident victims who need blood immediately. With “Giving for Living,” the students tried to reduce the problem by providing support through blood donation.
The head of the committee of this activity, Izzul Fathoni H., expressed his satisfaction with the results of this activity. He thanked KSR and PMI for their helpful cooperation in the implementation of this blood donation. He also appreciated the great enthusiasm of the participants, which included various departments at Undip and even the general public.
The committee chairman hoped that awareness regarding blood donation will continue to increase in the local environment. He hoped that more organizations and agencies at Undip as well as the general public could hold similar blood donation activities. In addition, he hopes that the good relationship between HME, KSR, and PMI will be closer, and they can continue to cooperate in future blood donation activities.
