Three Electrical Engineering students participated in the Diponegoro University (Undip) Engineering Student Choir (PSMT) which has achieved impressive achievements in two prestigious championships, both at the international and national levels. The three students, namely Haris Saragih, who is also the Chairman of Aksa Swara 2023, led the PSMT competition team. Irfan Fanani Haryanto and Nicholas David Marsen were the other two Electrical students who were instrumental in this success.

Apart from making history as Grand Prix Champions, they also won a number of awards at the 12th Bali International Choir Festival (BICF) and Satya Dharma Gita Choir Festival (SDGCF). At the 12th Bali International Choir Festival (BICF) which took place from July 25 to 29, 2023, Undip PSMT won the highest award, the Grand Prix Champion. They also won the first gold medal with an amazing score of 91.93 in the Mixed Youth Choir category. In the Musica Sacra category, Undip PSMT again won the fourth gold medal with a score of 86.85. In addition, they participated in the “Choir On the Beach” event at Kuta Beach, Bali.

Furthermore, Undip PSMT also performed stunningly in the Satya Dharma Gita Choir Festival (SDGCF) which took place on September 4 to 9, 2023. In this national competition, they won the award as 2nd Winner SDGCF 2023. They also won the first gold medal as 1st Runner Up Gold A with a score of 87.07 in the Music Religion category and the second gold medal as 2nd Runner Up Gold A with a score of 86.74 in the Folklore category. In addition, they won a gold medal in the Mixed Choir category with a score of 81.61.

The Undip PSMT training process lasted for six months, starting from February to July. They underwent sectional training from Monday to Thursday, and communal training from Friday to Sunday. However, their journey was not always smooth. Haris Geovanni, Chairman of Aksa Swara 2023, stated that they often had difficulty finding a place to practice on campus, especially when the faculty of engineering held special events that resulted in some rooms being unavailable for practice.

Not only that, the fundraising process is also not always easy due to the tight schedule of lectures, rehearsals, team management, and committees. However, they managed to overcome these obstacles in various ways, holding traveling concerts (koling), jamming in cafes, selling tickets for pre-competition concerts held by Undip PSMT and so on. This extraordinary achievement of Undip Choir is clear evidence that hard work, enthusiasm, and teamwork can bring them to glory in the world of vocal music.
