Khoirul Amar, a student of Electrical Engineering at Diponegoro University, won second place in the Article Competition at the National K3 Month (BK3N) Mining 2025 event organized by the Indonesian Mining Safety Professional Association (APKPI).
In his article, Khoirul raised the issue of high subjectivity in the labor certification process in the mining industry. He offered an innovative solution by applying an artificial intelligence-based response method called AIRES to improve the objectivity and efficiency of certification. “AIRES can ensure that only truly competent workers are certified, thus reducing the number of work accidents and increasing productivity,” Khoirul explained.
He said he was interested in participating in the competition because the topic was relevant to work safety issues in the mining industry. “I saw the competition announcement from APKPI just a day before the closing. I wrote this article in a short time and managed to submit it three hours before the deadline,” he said. The biggest challenge he faced was the limited data on mining accidents on the internet. “Luckily, Undip provides free access to journals which really helped me in my research,” he added.
As the second winner, Khoirul Amar was among the other winners, namely Hasanuddin (Improvement Media) as the first winner and Anita Oktoviana L.P.G.M from ITB as the third winner. This achievement also opened new opportunities for Khoirul, where his article was offered to be published by Improvement, a media active in the field of mining Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE). Khoirul hopes that the AIRES innovation can get the attention of the industry and policy makers so that it can be applied widely. “I want this contribution to be the first step for innovation in the field of work safety technology,” he concluded.
