Diponegoro University (UNDIP) Electrical Engineering student team won the Silver Medal and Special Award from the Chinese Innovation and Invention Society (CIIS) in the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2025 event held on February 20-22, 2025. The team consisting of Muhammad Reynard Fawwaz, Gilbert Daniel Silitonga, Hanan Winardi, and Ahmad Farruq Fadlul Karim and Rasya Theresa Jeffronsson Purba (Computer Engineering) competed with an innovation entitled “TiDeX (Tire Detection X): Employing CNN Approach to Mitigate Accident Risk”. This innovation is a tire leak detection tool based on the YOLO (You Only Look Once) algorithm that aims to prevent the risk of driving accidents.
In an interview, Ahmad Farruq Fadlul Karim said that his team was very grateful to be able to compete in this prestigious event, especially since the majority of team members have entered the final semester. He also revealed that the biggest challenge in developing this innovation was maintaining the accuracy of YOLO-based image processing to match the dataset used.
The team prepared for this competition carefully, from administrative requirements to tool testing. During the exhibition, they made presentations in English to an international audience. Despite not being their native language, they tried to convey their innovations clearly and efficiently, which contributed greatly to their success in winning the award.
The team’s success cannot be separated from the support of various parties, including the Tanoto Foundation and PT Jateng Petro Energi, which helped finance the preparation and departure of the team to MTE 2025. They also thanked the campus for the moral support and facilities provided.
Ahmad Farruq Fadlul Karim hopes that other students will not hesitate to compete in international events. “Be consistent in innovating, don’t stop asking questions about small things that can develop into something extraordinary. Learning to work in teams and convey ideas well is very important in competitions like this,” he said.
This success is proof that UNDIP Electrical Engineering students are able to compete in the international arena and continue to innovate in the world of technology.
